NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer is currently the only federally funded ship dedicated to the systematic exploration of our largely unknown ocean for the purpose of discovery and the advancement of knowledge. Learn more about ways to get involved in expeditions or how to submit a proposal for an additional project to take place during an expedition on the ship.
During expeditions on Okeanos Explorer, telepresence connects the ship and its discoveries live with audiences on shore. This model allows far more people to participate in expeditions on Okeanos Explorer than with a more “traditional” research expedition, providing many opportunities to get involved.
Learn how to submit a proposal for an Exploration Project of Opportunity (EPO), or a small additional project to take place during an expedition on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. The EPO process was created to ensure that NOAA Ocean Exploration optimizes ship time while sailing in remote and hard-to-access regions of the world’s ocean.
